Belarus Interested in Intensifying Economic Cooperation with Oman
OREANDA-NEWS. May 26, 2009. Belarus is interested in intensifying trade and economic cooperation with Oman, said President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko as he met with Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Manthri, Chairman of the State Council of the Sultanate of Oman, reported the Official website president.gov.by.
‘I think your visit to our country is a momentous visit. We consider your state, and we know this for sure, to be one of the most advanced and wealthiest states in the Persian Gulf. You have very close relationships with a very promising and significant state of the Gulf – United Arab Emirates,’ said the President of Belarus.
Alexander Lukashenko said he remembered well his meeting with the Sultan of Oman which took place in April 2007 as part of the Belarusian President’s official visit to the Sultanate of Oman.
The Head of State spoke highly of the Omani leader. ‘Your leader knows everything in detail – from rural life to construction of the most advanced buildings,’ said Alexander Lukashenko.
The President of Belarus said that two years before the Sultan of Oman and he had managed to reach mutual understanding, and a good relationship was developed. ‘I saw your leader’s willingness to build a relationship with Belarus and look for particular directions for this cooperation,’ he said.
But after the top-level meeting, the sides began searching for mechanisms for building their relationship. ‘For this, one should know the subject very well. We have acquainted ourselves with Oman, but you have seen very little of Belarus so far. I regard your visit so highly because you will manage to get to know the country with which you will probably have very good relations, and probably we will find the directions in our cooperation where we could make considerable progress. We would like you to have a good impression of our country when you return home,’ said Alexander Lukashenko to the Omani guest.
