OREANDA-NEWS. On 26 May 2009 UC RUSAL, the world's largest aluminium and alumina producer, announced that Artem Volynets, RUSAL's Director for Corporate Strategy, has been appointed the Chairman of the International Aluminium Institute (IAI), the global forum representing  more than 80% of world primary aluminium production.

IAI Secretary General Ron Knapp welcomed the news of Mr Volynets' appointment. "The Institute looks forward to Artem's leadership as the industry is facing the tough consequences of the global economic downturn. We are confident that his industry knowledge and experience will be highly instrumental for our members in resolving the matters of common concern and encouraging an early realization of the prospects of this healthy, safe and environmentally sound metal."

Commenting on the appointment Artem Volynets said, "It's a great honour and challenge for me to step up as the Chairman of the International Aluminium Institute at this crucial moment of the industry history.  The sustainable future of this uniquely valuable material is now at stake and I see my role in ensuring that aluminium has a solid platform to fully realize its potential and grow on the global metal arena with renewed strength."
