OREANDA-NEWS. On 26 May 2009 was announced, that the Customs Service of Moscow International Airport Domodedovo is celebrating its 15th anniversary. The Customs Service began its work on May 13th 1994 when the order on the “creation of Domodedovo Customs Service” was issued by the Chairman of the State Customs Committee. All these years the Customs Service has been guarding the economical interests of the country, controlling transition of goods to and from the country, preventing smuggling of drugs, jewelry, illegal import of cultural valuables.

During the 15 years of its existence the Customs Service developed together with the airport, the passenger turnover of which has tripled since 1994 and added up to 20.4 million passengers in 2008. Today, 78 carriers operate flights to and from Domodedovo and its route network consists of 152 international destinations. Only recently such airlines as Lufthansa, American Airlines, Etihad, United Airlines became partners of DME.

The increase of the number of international routes and the launch of flights to foreign countries leads to the increase of the amount of passengers crossing the boarder, which means intensification of the work process for Customs Service Specialists. Nevertheless, they are always on their guard, uncovering and preventing possible crimes.
