President of Association of Banks of Moldova Says on Risks to Banks
OREANDA-NEWS. May 21, 2009. The main risks the banking system of Moldova faces is crediting and liquidation risks, - Dmitry Ursu.
The President of the Association of Banks of Moldova Dmitry Ursu has informed, that now that the stability of the Moldovan banking system is partly threatened by the risks due to economic recession.
He also said that, according to NBM, the quality of loan portfolio of the banking system as of March 31, 2009 has deteriorated, overdue loans and uncollected debts have increased almost twice - from 20,4% as of December 31, 2008 up to 40.9% as of late first quarter of this year.
The ratio of assets to the cumulative adverse regulatory capital has grown from 19.7% up to 29.4%. As the result, net income in relation to the average shareholders' equity has decreased from 19.9% up to 7.5%. According to the Association of the Banks, they will stick to the more adequate credit policy", - said Dmitry Ursu.
