Russian Authorities to Allocate Additional Funds for Nuclear Weapons
OREANDA-NEWS. May 21, 2009. The Government will allocate additional funds for supporting nuclear weapons complex, Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko said after the conference on the development and optimization of the nuclear complex held by Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin at VNIIA on May 20 2009.
“The Prime Minister has decided to allocate additional funds for supporting our nuclear weapons complex. He says that our nuclear weapons companies must be highly efficient especially now that the state is providing them with big money despite the crisis,” Kiriyenko said.
“The production of VNIIA is used not only in Russia but in eight countries. Recently China ordered conversion products for physical protection of its facilities,” Kiriyenko said. He pointed out that the enlargement of VNIIA had enhanced its efficiency.
“VNIIA has fully compensated the losses caused by reduction in the state order. We are planning to add two more Moscow enterprises to the institute,” Kiriyenko said.
He said that corporization was an effective way to enhance the efficiency of nuclear companies.
“The law on Rosatom State Corporation says that in 2010 we should have no state unitary enterprises. By the example of VNIIA we have shown to the Prime Minister how we reorganize a defense company. 100% of the institute’s shares will remain in the hands of the state and will always be in the hands of the state. Joint stock company is a more competitive form of ownership. It will help VNIIA to carry out civil purpose projects on the Russian and foreign markets.”
Kiriyenko believes that the high efficiency of nuclear weapons companies will encourage the companies of the related industries.
“Today, we have 10 employees of the related industries with have contracts with per 1 worker of the nuclear sector,” Kiriyenko said.
