Cotton Sowing Campaign Completed in Turkmenistan
OREANDA-NEWS. May 21, 2009. The cotton sowing campaign completed in Turkmenistan. This season cotton-growers are planning to grow 1.050,000 tones of ‘white gold’ on the 545,000-hectare area.
For the first time the soil and climatic conditions of each region were taken into account during this year’s agricultural campaign. Yoloten-7 and 133 middle staple cotton varieties were sown in all the regions except Dashoguz Velayat where 149F, C-4727, Dashoguz-120 and Serdar middle staple varieties were sown. Along with other varieties farmers in the Lebap and Balkan Velayat sowed C-2606 middle staple variety. 9871Y, 9946Y and Yoloten-14 fine staple cotton varieties were sown in the Ahal and Mary Velayats with the most favourable climatic conditions.
According to the Turkmenobahyzmat Association, thousands of John Deer, Case and Belarus-1221 ploughing tractors, MTZ-80X tractor cultivators, cotton sowing machines, disk and spike-tooth harrows and other agricultural equipment are engaged in this year’s sowing campaign. Additional equipment and machines of the farmers association and private owners will be engaged in the campaign to complete it in a timely manner.
This year almost 9,000 machine operators, hundreds of repair mechanics of the Turkmenobahyzmat Association and specialists of the maintenance departments are engaged in the sowing campaign and agricultural activities.
Agricultural workers in the southeastern and western regions of the country where the cotton sowing campaign was completed earlier started to thin out and treat cotton plantations and prepare sown areas for additional fertilizing with carbamide.
