OREANDA-NEWS. Russian Railways is to run a pilot project on the electronic registration of passengers on long-distance trains from 1 June, 2009, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

Electronic registration is the further development of our project to sell tickets online. When boarding the train, passengers just have to present the order form printed from the Internet and the identity document given at the time of their online booking.

Passengers can use electronic registration when ordering an e-ticket, after payment, or at any other time, but no later than one hour before departure.

In order to register, enter the personal office on our site, select “paid order” and fill in the electronic registration as indicated.

Passengers can waive their electronic registration via our site, at the ticket office by simply booking their tickets there, and at the self-service payment terminal. Electronic registration can be waived at any time, but no later than one hour before departure.

If you wish to change your travel conditions (e.g. cancellation etc.) and have a ticket obtained online with electronic registration, you have to fill out an electronic ticket on the appropriate form at a Russian Railways’ ticket office, but not later than one hour prior to departure.

The project’s trial period will begin on 1 June 2009. Ticket sales using electronic registration is planned to begin on May 25.

“The test period for the new service will run until September. After analysing the results, we plan to extend the electronic registration to all long distance Russian Railways’ trains,” said Company Vice President Michael Akulov.

During the pilot operation, passengers will be able to use the new service on the following trains and routes:
- Moscow - St. Petersburg (Train Nos. 55/56, 23/24, 3 / 4, 159/160, 165/166);
- Moscow - Gorky - Moscow (Train Nos. 61/62, 119/120);
- Moscow - Kazan - Moscow (Train No. 49/50).
