OREANDA-NEWS. May 18, 2009. A business was for the first time ever created in Estonia via the e-registry facility of the Commercial Register using a Finnish ID card this week.

All of the company's two Estonian and three Finnish founders used their ID card to set up the business. The new company is based in Tallinn and its area of business is wholesale of electronics and telecommunications equipment and their components, the Ministry of Justice said.

Authentication using a Finnish ID card became possible on the entrepreneurs' portal of the e-Commercial Register at the end of 2008. The portal also accepts Portuguese, Belgian and Lithuanian digital signatures.

The portal is unique in Europe for the speeds it offers for the establishment of a new business. A private limited company can be registered via the portal using an ID card in just a couple of hours.

In addition to creating a company also the registry data of a company can be changed and an electronic annual report filed using the portal.
