OREANDA-NEWS. On 18 May 2009 was announced, that Transaero results for the winter 2008-2009 season had shown the airline’s stable performance against the background of the global recession. The airline’s position as the second largest Russian carrier for passenger turnover and the third largest for passengers transported as well as for the largest Russian leisure carrier were strengthened.

For the period from November 2008 to March 2009, Transaero passenger turnover reached 5.813 billion pkm in total, just 4.2 % less for the same period last year. The number of passengers transported was more than 1.237 million, 3.9 % less than for the same period last year. The total mail and cargo handled reached 9,183 tons, 13.4 % more than for the same period last year.

Transaero’s positions on domestic and on a number of important international routes have been substantially strengthened. In the period from November 2008 to March 2009, Transaero Airlines has increased its volume of passenger traffic on domestic Russian flights by more than 20%. The Russian Far East has been a priority for Transaero’s route network development. The number of passengers flying Transaero to this region has grown 77% in comparison with the same period last year.

Transaero has also launched flights to new domestic destinations during the recent winter season, including flights from Moscow to Kazan, Krasnoyarsk, Magadan, Samara and to Ufa.

Transaero supports a responsible fare pricing policy. Realizing the social significance of air transport in Russia, Transaero has constantly striven to make air transport affordable for all categories of passengers. Transaero has reduced domestic business class airfare by more than in one and a half times on average and offers the most competitive airfare on all newly opened domestic routes.
