OREANDA-NEWS. On May 18, 2009 President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko met with the Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, Pyotr Prokopovich, to receive his report, reported the Official website president.gov.by.
The President was given an update on the course of implementation of the Basic Guidelines of the Monetary and Credit Policy of the Republic of Belarus over the first four months of 2009 and on the bank’s short-term objectives.
All the target indicators set forth in the Basic Guidelines for the January-April period have been met in full, said Pyotr Prokopovich. Special attention was paid to the indicators that are essential for meeting the targets of the country’s social and economic development forecast.
The rate of the Belarusian rouble remains within the +/–5 per cent corridor in a foreign currency basket. In April, the rouble rose against the U.S. dollar and fell against the euro and Russian rouble. The President demanded that the Belarusian rouble should remain strictly within the +/–5 per cent range.
