Ukraine to Endorse Law Banning Gambling in Inhabited Localities
OREANDA-NEWS. May 14, 2009. Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko calls on people’s deputies to stop blocking the parliamentary rostrum and vote for the law which envisages placement of gambling establishments exceptionally outside inhabited localities. Yulia Tymoshenko announced on during a briefing.
According to her, recently the Government has received hundreds of telegrams from Ukrainian citizens who suffered from illegal activity of gambling establishments: “The gambling establishments are just robbing people, leading to complete degradation. The citizens are sending telegrams and calling to special governmental hotlines with a demand to establish order in this gambling business”.
Yulia Tymoshenko imparted according to the live data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and pursuant to the respective Government’s ordinance, the activity of 10319 out of 10413 gambling establishments has been ceased for a month. She added biggest resistance was shown in Kyiv and Donetsk, cities with highest density of such objects.
The Premier stressed through the month all the gambling establishments will undergo check-ups whether they follow fire, sanitary safety rules and financial discipline. “For the month gambling establishments will not be operating until they are checked,” the Head of Government emphasized.
Yulia Tymoshenko underlined while the check-up is underway the Parliament has to immediately approve elaborated by the Government draft law on restriction of activity of the gambling establishments and their immigrating away from inhabited localities.
The Prime Minister is indignant at the fact certain deputies are lobbying gambling business in Ukraine, which hampers considering of the mentioned draft law in the session hall. “I think blocking should be ceased and this significant law voted”.
