OREANDA-NEWS. May 12, 2009. In I quarter of 2009, the trade deficit of Moldova totaled US502 million, decreasing by US 201.7 million or 28.7% as compared to the same period of 2008.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in January-March 2009, the volume of Moldovan export amounted to US 280 million, decreasing by 18.2% as compared to the same period of the last year. Export of Moldavian goods to CIS amounted to US 96.6 million, declining by 28,1%.

Export of Moldovan goods to EU decreased by 14.3% - up to US 154.2 million. In January-March 2009, the volume of import to Moldova amounted to US 782 million, decreasing by 25,2% as compared to the same period of the last year.

At the same time, import from CIS decreased by 16% - up to US 322.8 million and from EU - by 34,8% - up to US 301.6 million.

Trade deficit of Moldova with EU countries decreased by 47.9% - up to US 147.4 million and with CIS - by 9.5% - up to US 226.2 million. In I quarter of this year, the largest trade deficit of Moldova was registered with Kazakhstan (-US 162 million), Ukraine (-US 72.1 million), China (-US 50.2 million), France (-US 34.5 million), Germany (-US 33.8 million) and Turkey (-US 31.5 million).
