Belarus Made Some Amendments on Alcohol Control
OREANDA-NEWS. On May 05, 2009 President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko issued Ordinance No 4 ‘On Introducing Amendments and Additions to Ordinances No 11 of 9 September 2005 and No 3 of 29 February 2008 of the President of the Republic of Belarus, Recognizing As No Longer Valid Ordinance No 18 of 14 December 2005 and Certain Provisions of Ordinances of the President of the Republic of Belarus’, reported the Official website president.gov.by.
This document has been prepared with the view of implementing Article 37 of the Law of the Republic of Belarus ‘On State Control Over Production and Turnover of Alcoholic, Inedible Alcohol-Containing Products and Inedible Ethyl Alcohol’ of 27 August 2008, which came into force on 4 March 2009.
The document excludes from Ordinance No 11 of 9 September 2005 ‘On Improving State Control over Production, Turnover and Advertising of Beer, Alcoholic, Inedible Alcohol-Containing Products and Inedible Ethyl Alcohol’ the provisions that were copied to the Law, as well as provisions related to government control over advertising which were included into the Law of the Republic of Belarus ‘On Advertising’.
With the view of boosting the export of alcoholic products, the new ordinance allows advertisement on producers’ websites of certain aspects of alcoholic beverages.
Thus Ordinance No 4 serves to bring the national legislation in accord with the country’s international obligations, expand the scope of producers’ rights in advertising their products destined for export, and preserves the appropriate state control over the production and turnover of alcohol-containing products.
