Ukraine and Russia to Consider Shortening in Gas Consumption
OREANDA-NEWS. April 28, 2009. The Governments of Ukraine and Russia are to consider shortening in consumption of Russian natural gas by Ukraine. The Premier of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko informed journalists. According to her, this issue is included into the agenda of a visit of Ukrainian delegation to Moscow on April 29.
Yulia Tymoshenko disclosed nowadays Ukraine consumes less natural gas than planned. According to her, it is joined in particular with the fact that in connection with the crisis Ukrainian enterprises aren’t operating at full power. “That’s why we will tackle shortening of natural gas consumption by Ukraine and I am convinced understandings concerning the plans of consumption will be corrected,” Yulia Tymoshenko urged. She added negotiations in this issue will be led on the level of Prime Ministers of Ukraine and Russia.
At this, she drew attention to the fact that from beginning of the year the Government had changed the whole system of supplies of Ukraine with natural gas by eliminating all corrupt mediators between Ukraine and Russia and by clinching direct deals between Naftogaz of Ukraine and Gazprom. According to Ukrainian PM, for now there are no problems in this direction: Ukraine fulfills timely and complete payments for the gas on the fact of consumption.
The Head of Government stressed such cooperation gives us way not to raise prices for gas, heating and hot water for the population so they remain on the level of last year’s. Yulia Tymoshenko assured in the capacity of the Prime Minister she will never afford in the system of gas supplies “any sly and corrupt mediators on the market. Everything will be great in our country: gas in gas storages, gas for the country and no crisis. We have signed the contract for 10 years”.
