Russia Can Significantly Cut Electricity and Gas Tariff Rates
OREANDA-NEWS. April 27, 2009. Russia’s Economic and Development Ministry has proposed significantly cutting electricity and gas tariff growth rates for industrial users and households in 2010 compared to the currently approved rates, a government source says.
The Ministry suggests hiking the electricity tariff by 5% instead of the earlier planned 22% for industrial users and by 10% compared to 25% for households. According to MED, gas tariffs for industrial users should be raised by 5% instead of 27.7% and for households by 20.8% instead of 30.0%. The ministry proposes hiking railroad freight tariffs in 2010 by 10.0% (vs the scheduled range of 9.3-13.7%) and passenger tariffs by 10% (vs 12-14% in the previous forecast).
