OREANDA-NEWS. April 21, 2009. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Vice Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Igor Sechin, who was in charge of Russia’s energy sector

The guest conveyed the heartfelt greetings and best wishes of RF President Dmitriy Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to the leader of Turkmenistan. I. Sechin said that Russia highly valued the ties of friendship and long-term cooperation with Turkmenistan and stood ready to maintain and enhance them.

Thanking for the heartfelt greetings and expressing the best wishes to the leadership of the Russian Federation Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan and Russia maintained strategic partnership meeting the interests of both countries, whose peoples were bound with the age-old ties of mutual confidence and understanding. In this regard the Turkmen leader highly appreciated the results of the state visit to the Russian Federation, which allowed filling the bilateral dialogue with a new content.

During the meeting the sides exchanged views on the current level of Turkmen-Russian energy cooperation and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov presented clearly Turkmenistan’s position on this matter.

Igor Sechin highly appreciated significance of the Turkmen leader’s initiative on global energy security completely supported by Russia – one of the co-authors of the relevant UN Resolution. The Vice Premier said that a representative Russian delegation would take part in the international high level conference on the Reliable and Stable Transit of Energy and Its Role in Ensuring Sustainable Development and International Cooperation, which would be opened in Ashgabat this week and become an important step to elaborate new approaches to tackling this problem of the modern world.
