OREANDA-NEWS. On April 16, 2009 the Commission, Appointed by State Energy Inspection under the Ministry of Economy, commissioned the reconstructed 110/10 kV (kilovolt) Migla substation, supplying electricity to Mazeikiai, reported the press-centre of Lietuvos Energija.

The four-year-project was performed in three stages with its total value – LTL 4 million  150 thousand.

“This year it has been one of our major investment projects in this western region of Lithuania”, - said Mr. Vidmantas Grusas – Deputy CEO for Transmission Grid. According to him, these renovations have significantly boosted the reliability of electricity supply and reduced the operation cost of the substation: from now on it will be possible to control Migla substation remotely from the dispatch center of Lietuvos Energija.

The remote control of substations requires a possibility of significantly larger information flows and therefore, while performing the rehab works, a new lightening rod with an optical cable replaced 12 km of formerly used lightening rod of Migla overhead lines.

According to V. Grusas, the former Migla power equipment was technically obsolete. Moreover, due to the poor drainage system, water constantly accumulated in the territory of the substation.  The substation’s main control and protection as well as communications equipment were renovated, a new modular control panel installed, all 110 kV transformer substation’s equipment were replaced.

The Migla substation, owned by Klaipeda Division, has been in operation since 1967. It supplies power to a big part of Mazeikiai town and its large industrial consumers, including the thermal power plant, water supply infrastructure.

The contractors of Migla substation rehab works – A. Zilinskio ir Ko UAB, subcontractor – Empower AB.
