Ozerk Schoolchildren Visit Museum of First Reactor
OREANDA-NEWS. April 14, 2009. The children were first-year students of the Chemical-Technological Process Operator Department. The excursion was organized by employees of Mayak Production Association in the framework of the support provided by the company to the school.
The guests were told about the history of the first commercial uranium-graphite reactor and its contribution to the defense capacity of our country as well as about the pioneers of the national nuclear industry, the founders of its first plant, Mayak. The children examined the control panel of the reactor with keen interest and asked lots of questions concerning its work.
“The excursion was very interesting. Our kids have learned lots of interesting things about Mayak, the people who have designed Russia’s first reactor. They were impressed with the reactor: it was very much different from what they had seen in pictures. After the excursion most of our children said that they had chosen right profession and would love to work at Mayak,” Director of Vocational School № 46 Y.Valeeva said.
