OREANDA-NEWS. April 13, 2009. March of 2009 sees a tendency of further slowing down of inflation processes on the consumer market of Ukraine. Deputy head of the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine Nataliya Vlasenko announced during a briefing in the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to her, in March of the current year the growth of prices in Ukraine amounted only 1.4%, being 1.5% in February and 2.9% in January. “It should be noted inflation in March of 2008 was 103.8% against 101.4% demonstrated by March of the current year,” Nataliya Vlasenko informed.

She stressed growth of consumer prices at the beginning of year amounted 105.9%, which is down from the analogous period of last year (109.7%). “It proves that inflation processes in Ukraine are slowing down and the situation with inflation is not catastrophic in January-March of the current year,” the deputy head of the State Statistics Committee opined.

Nataliya Vlasenko informed food market also demonstrates deceleration of growth of prices for certain foodstuffs such as fish and sea food, butter, animal fat products, confectionery, rice, macaroni and others. Besides, so called “social” products also fell in price, in particular eggs, milk, vegetables, beef and pork.

Together with that practically all imported goods are rising, especially household appliances and pharmaceutical products. 

Nataliya Vlasenko accentuated negative factor which has influenced the inflation processes was growth of prices for alcohol beverages and tobacco goods as well as raise of communal tariffs.
