OREANDA-NEWS. On April 13, 2009 Targeting maintaining stability on the home market of sugar and protection of interests of national producers of sugar and sugar beet the Ministry of Economics, Ministry of Agrarian Policy and UkrTsukor have signed a Memorandum on coordination of actions.

The document was signed by Deputy Minister of Economics of Ukraine Viktor Panteleyenko, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Ivan Demchak, acting head of board of the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine Petro Borysiuk.

The Memorandum contains that the Economics Ministry is obliged to coordinate with Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the Association UkrTsukor the process of issuing licenses on importation in Ukraine of raw within the limits of the determined tariff quota and also respective changes to the current normative-legal acts are to be made.

Moreover, the Ministry of Economics has to ensure protection of interests of the national sugar producers on home and foreign markets and, if needed, shall initiate respective changes into the legislation and embark on talks with international organizations.

In their turn, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and UkrTsukor Association assume responsibility to guarantee production of sugar in the amounts necessary to cover home demand and not to afford growth of wholesale prices for sugar higher than the level of index of consumer price in the preceding month.

Besides, provisions of the Memorandum envisage interaction of the signatories with regards to making up demand/supply ratio, cooperation in the process of harmonization of the legislation regulating relations on the sugar market.

Deputy Economics Minister of Ukraine Viktor Panteleyenko expressed hopes meeting requirements of the Memorandum will enable sustainable development of the situation on the home market of sugar and protecting interests of sugar producers and the consumers alike.
