OREANDA-NEWS. April 07, 2009. The balance of deposits in Moldova’s bank system reduced in February 2009 by 254 million lei (1.1%) in comparison with the previous month and totaled 23 billion 330.6 million lei as of the end of the month.

According to the National Bank’s data, the indicator reduced to the decrease of the balance of lei deposits by 650 million lei (4.7%) while the balance of deposits in foreign currency increased by 396 million lei (4%).

The balance of on-demand deposits totaled 5 billion 986.8 million in as of the end of February of this year, up 34.4 million lei against the previous month. The share of on demand deposits made up 25.7% of the total amount of deposits in the bank system, up 0.5 percentage points in comparison with the previous month.

The volume of deposits with fixed period in lei reduced by 175.7 million lei in February 2009 and totaled 1 billion 360.8 million lei. Reduction of the indicator resulted from the decrease in the volumes of individuals’ deposits by 207.5 million lei (16.4%) while the amount of legal entities’ deposits rose by 31.8 million lei (11.8%).

The balance of deposits with fixed period in lei as of the end of February 2009 totaled 9 billion 383.8 million lei, down 548.5 million lei (5.5%) from the previous month as a result of the reduction of the volume of individuals’ and legal entities’ deposits by 424.9 million lei (5.2%) and 123.6 million lei (7.3%), respectively.

The balance of foreign currency deposits with fixed period increased in February 2009 by 260.1 million lei (3.4%) and totaled 7 billion 960 million lei.

In February 2009, the volume of foreign currency deposits with fixed period totaled 1 billion 542 million lei (equivalent of US146 million), up 74.4 million lei (5.1%) in comparison with the previous month due to the 147.7 million lei (11.6%) growth of individuals’ deposits while legal entities’ deposits reduced by 73.3 million lei or 38.9%.
