OREANDA-NEWS. April 7, 2009. Specialists of Afrikantov OKBM OJSC (100% subsidiary of Atomenergoprom OJSC) have completed the installation and adjustment of the main equipment (reactor safety systems, heat exchangers, reloaders, control devices) of the China Experimental Fast Reactor (CEFR), a project that is being implemented with the support of Russian companies.

The reactor hermeticity testing has been completed. In May 2009 the reactor will be filled with sodium, in July-Aug 2009 it will be charged with fuel produced by TVEL OJSC (100% subsidiary of Atomenergoprom OJSC). The commissioning of the reactor is scheduled for the second half of 2009.

The success of this project will pave the way for further effective cooperation with China in the field of production of fast breeder reactors. China is interested in fast reactors. This is a unique reactor. The only commercial fast breeder reactor is operated by Russian Beloyarsk Nuclear Power Plant.
