Ingosstrakh Summarizes Its 2008 Results in Marine Insurance
OREANDA-NEWS. On 07 April 2009 was announced, that preliminary figures for 2008 show the volume of insurance premiums paid to Ingosstrakh, IJSC, in the marine insurance segment at the rate of USD 66.1 exceeding the same figure for 2007 by 5% with the paid compensations totaling USD 53 mln.
Ingosstrakh has occupied the leading position in the Russian shipowners’ liability insurance market for many years both in the number of insured vessels and collected premiums. In 2008 the company concluded 758 shipowners’ liability insurance agreements. Its clients may opt to have their liability insured within the USD 500 mln. limit. According to Sergey Trubitsyn, head of the Vessel and Shipowners’ Liability Insurance Department at Ingosstrakh, IJSC, ‘today only two of the world’s eight commercial liability insurers provide shipowners with such a high-level insurance limit’.
Premiums collected by Ingosstrakh in this segment in 2008 amounted to USD25.4 mln. (having grown by 7% as compared to the same indicator in 2007), at the same time the company paid USD 19.6 mln. in compensations. Major regulated costs include USD 14 mln. paid for Jane shipwreck elimination in Japan. Half of this amount was paid in 2007 with the rest of it - in 2008.
Insurance premiums collected by Ingosstrakh in vessels’ hull insurance in 2008 reached USD 40.7 mln, thus growing by 11.5 % against the 2007 figure. Compensations paid under vessels’ hull insurance terms constituted USD 33.4 mln. The number of vessels insured under the hull insurance program grew 7.5% in the past year and reached 1934.
In 2008 the company’s new major clients became the Latvian steamship line under vessel hull insurance and BNAVI (Italy) under shipowners’ liability insurance programs. Besides, Volgotanker, Volga steamship line, North-west steamship line, Admiralty Shipyards, Novorossiysk steamship line, Akros, Primorye steamship line, Kamchatimpeks, T. Alendal Rederei (Norway), Priamos (Greece), Lithuanian steamship line, Kaalbye Shipping, etc still remained among the company’s major clients in 2008.
