OREANDA-NEWS. On 02 April 2009 was announced, that total examination of all anti-lightning protection devices is started in all power stations and substations of JSC “Far Eastern Generating Company” (JSC “FEGC”). It is traditionally carry out by the energy employees every spring, in order to prevent damages of electric equipment in case of hitting by the lightning during the thunderstorm and avoid threat of failure power supply of the population of the Far East.

As noted Deputy Chief Engineer of JSC “FEGC” Zinaida KRAVTSOVA, till nowadays there were no registered cases of equipment failure because of thunderstorm in JSC “Far Eastern Generating Company”. Nevertheless, in the company are keep paying attention to scheduled maintenance against such unpleasant incidents.

In accordance with approved schedules at all the stations of generating company there will be carried out current repair and scheduled tests of devices, protecting the electric equipment from lightning. Besides that, the specialists of JSC “FEGC” will examine once more all means of lightning protection, aiming at detecting there earlier not detected outer defects and hidden damages. The out-of-control rejects, based on the examinations, and out-of-date devices will be replaced. The most thorough examination will be for electric equipment earthing. There will be put into operation valve dischargers of all levels of voltage, disabled for winter period.

In line with technical actions, at all companies of the energy company in Amurskaya and Jewish Autonomous oblasts, in Khabarovsky and Primorsky krais, in the south of Republic of Sakha there will be carried out extraordinary briefings and drills of the operational personnel on the actions while failures of electric equipment during thunderstorms.

The preparatory work for thunderstorm season of 2009 there will be finished in JSС “FEGC” by May 1, and in the northern power stations of the company – at Nikolayevskaya CHPP (Khabarovsky krai) and at Neryungrinskaya TPP (south of Republic of Sakha) – by June 1, by the time when there will be the first thunderstorms. After its completion the readiness sof lightning protection  will be evaluated and accepted by special commissions headed by the chief engineers of the branches. Till the autumn the lightnings will be under control.
