OREANDA-NEWS. Mart 26–27 2009 representatives of Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant and Iberdrola company (Spain) met at Novovoronezh NPP to hold a kick-off meeting in the framework of the preparations for the modernization of the equipment of the 5th unit.

The parties discussed the contract for provision of information and consulting services and preparation of expert findings on the results of the inspection of the work of the 5th unit of Novovoronezh NPP. The contract was signed on Mar 5 2009 for one year.

Iberdrola was represented by a delegation led by Technical Director Suarez Alonso Joaquin, Novovoronezh NPP – by Chief Engineer Valery Zhbannikov and leading specialists of the plant.

The parties discussed the key stages of the contract, revised its schedule and examined a number of technical questions.

The objective of this project is to collect and systematize data on the current state of the equipment of the second circuit of the 5th unit and to prepare expert findings on the efficiency of the equipment.

Presently, the parties are preparing a check-list containing all necessary design data for computer modeling of the unit. Based on the results of heat calculation and advanced scientific and technological achievements, they will consider ways to enhance the efficiency and the safety of the equipment.

The analysis of this data will help the specialists of the plant to choose the right method. Preference may be given to adjustment, reconstruction or replacement of the equipment or installation of additional one.

The experience to be acquired under this project will be used at other Russian nuclear power plants with due regard for their operating peculiarities.
