OREANDA-NEWS. On March 27, 2009 With joining efforts Ministry of Emergency, Economics Ministry, Ministry of Fuel and Energy and National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine have elaborated a draft strategy of handling radioactive wastes in Ukraine.

Minister of MES Volodymyr Sandra announced today. “The strategy is aimed at completion and effective functioning of an integrated system of handling of radioactive wastes. It will enable realization of safe handling of radioactive wastes of all kinds and categories, accumulated for the previous periods or resulted from nuclear energy use today,” the Minister underlined.

Moreover, he informed a technical final report is being coordinated and will become the basis for a draft ordinance of the Government on approval of the strategy of handling radioactive wastes in Ukraine. “The strategy will completely comply with the principles and requirements of the European legislation and recommendations of international organizations such as IAEA and Euroatom.
