OREANDA-NEWS. On March 26, 2009 the President of the Republic of Belarus signed Decree No 144 ‘On Certain Taxation Issues’, reported the Official website president.gov.by.

The Decree aligns the presidential legal acts concerning payment of property tax with the amendments made to the Law of the Republic of Belarus ‘On Property Tax’, which came into effect on 1 January 2009.

Under the Law, liable to property tax are buildings and structures (earlier, all fixed assets were taxable). The Decree sets forth a list of buildings and structures designed and constructed for purposes of protection of the environment and improvement of the ecological situation, which are exempt from property tax.

In addition, Decree No 144 recognises Presidential Decree No 142 ‘On Approving the List of Fixed Assets Intended for the Purposes of Protection of the Environment and Improvement of the Ecological Situation, Which Are Exempt from Property Tax’ of 7 March 2006 as no longer valid.
