OREANDA-NEWS. March 24, 2009. Following the European Parliament and Council Directive 2005/65/EC, all the EU member countries ports must have their Port Security Plans, reported the press-centre of Klaipeda State Seaport.

Taking into consideration the requirements of European Parliament and Council Directive for member country ports, the port authority signed a contract with the Recognized Security Organization, founded in 1969, having long-term knowledge in this sphere American company SAIC (Science Applications International Corporation) on the 28th of July 2008 concerning the preparation of Klaipeda State Seaport Security Plan.
 
Security plan is prepared on the basis of Klaipeda State Seaport security valuation report made in 2007 by the recognized security organization – Dutch company AON.
           
In the Security plan there are approved the actions and measures of port controlling institutions the aim of which is to prevent possible or existing threats in the seaport: outer roadstead, port waters, port land territory, air space above Klaipeda port and other zones influencing the security of the port.
 
On the 10th of March 2009 Klaipeda State Seaport Security plan was approved by the Order of the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania but before that this plan was approved by all the institutions controlling the port. Following the above-mentioned order, European Parliament and Council Directive 2005/65/EC is completely implemented in the Republic of Lithuania and Klaipeda port.
