Moscow and Tokyo May Sign Agreement on Nuclear Energy
OREANDA-NEWS. March 23, 2009. In May 2009, during the visit of Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin to Tokyo, the Russian and Japanese governments may sign an agreement for cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy, Vice Premier of Russia, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Sobyanin said during a press-conference on Mar 21 2009.
“We are working towards this end with our Japanese partners,” Sobyanin said.
In his turn, Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko said that a year before Atomenergoprom and Toshiba signed a memorandum of mutual understand and had already drafted a whole package of long-term projects, particularly, concerning uranium prospecting, mining and enrichment.
“The projects are at a “crouch start” stage waiting for the singing of the inter-governmental agreement,” Kiriyenko said.
