OREANDA-NEWS. March 19, 2009. Moldova will receive from the World Bank an additional loan of US10 million for implementation of the Energy II Project.

It is provided by the agreement on additional funding, signed by the Minister of Finance Mariana Durlesteanu and the permanent representative of WB in Moldova Melanie Marlette in Chisinau.

It is planned that provided credit in the amount of US 10 million will be used to improve the heating and hot water systems in 54 buildings of 12 localities of Moldova - health care facilities and kindergartens, gymnasiums and lyceums. The Energy II Project in Moldova was initiated in March 2004.

The goal of the project is to strengthen safety and reliability of electricity transmission systems, facilitate management of the system, improve fitness, quality and efficiency of heating systems in the buildings selected.

The project provides decentralization of the thermal power sector of the country. In general, the Energy II Project should help Moldova to strengthen its role in the energy market and should assist in joining the Union for Coordination of Transmission of Electricity (UCTE). Energy II Project - is the largest project of the World Bank in Moldova.

Its total cost exceeded US 35 million. Energy II Project for Moldova was named one of the winners of the annual competition of the World Bank "Improving lives of people in Europe and Central Asia, -2009", held on February 18-19, 2009.
