OREANDA-NEWS. March 18, 2009. In February the Saint-Petersburg and Moscow Mints – Branches of Goznak took part in the 38th World Money Fair which took place in Germany.
It is the largest in Europe Money Fair. Mints of the world, dealing companies engaged in coin distribution, coin planchet and packing manufacturers, holographic companies, numismatists. There were 270 booths at the Fair this year. In spite of the economical crisis, the number of participants and visitors has grown. Out of the 56 mints existing in the world, representatives of 52 mints arrived at the exhibition. The paper money shows depreciation, therefore interest to coins of precious metals grows throughout the world. The united booth of the Saint-Petersburg and Moscow Mints – Branches of Goznak was one of the most popular places at the exhibition. According to Mikhail Goncharenko, Head of the Marketing Department of the Saint-Petersburg Mint, the exhibition visitors were very interested in the Russian coins: both the big and the small ones of gold, silver and nonferrous metals. The first coins of the Bank of Russia with color images attracted special interest of both numismatists and specialists – the coin dedicated to Nikolay Nosov’s jubilee (put into circulation in 2008) and “The 50th Anniversary of the Start of Lunar Exploration” coin (2009).
The three-kilogram gold coin produced at the Saint-Petersburg Mint was not left without attention either. By no means all the mints in the world are able to produce a coin like that. The Mints of Goznak also demonstrated products more available to general public – numismatic sets of bimetal coins with the face-value of 10 rubles of “The Russian Federation” and “The Ancient Cities of Russia” series; numismatic sets of change coins as well as the latest developments of enterprising products – calendar medals and calendars with tokens issued for 2009.
