DTEK Forecasts 12-13% Drop in Electricity Consumption in 2009
OREANDA-NEWS. March 18, 2009. This forecast was sounded out by the Chief Strategy Officer of DTEK, Mr. Vitaly Butenko, during the Adam Smith Ukrainian Investment Summit held in London.
Moreover, he noted that this drop in electivity consumption is still a high case.
V. Butenko also stressed that privatization in the energy sector was made a hostage of political situation in Ukraine.
"Unfortunately, further privatization in the energy sector was made a hostage of the political situation in the country," said DTEK’s Chief Strategy Officer and added that the company is still interested in unfreezing this process both in thermal generation and in electricity distribution sectors.
As was previously reported, in 2008 the electricity consumption in Ukraine (including network losses) dropped by 0.5% against 2007 - to 185 bn. 150.7 m kWh, while in December 2008 consumption shrunk by 12.3% - to 16.263 TWh, in January 2009 it went down by 13.8% to 16.173 TWh.
