Russia and Mongolia Intensify Nuclear Energy Cooperation
OREANDA-NEWS. March 17, 2009. The document was signed today, Mar 17, 2009, by Deputy Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Nikolay Spassky and Head of the Department of Atomic Energy of Mongolia Sondomyn Enkhbat.
The agreement was signed as a result of the negotiations held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of Mongolia Sanj Bayar.
Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko said earlier that the agreement would allow the parties to set up a joint venture for developing uranium deposits in Mongolia and Russia as well as in the territories of third states.
Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia have signed a memorandum of mutual understanding between Rosselkhozbank and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia. A source from the Government of Russia reports that during the meeting Putin and Bayar discussed the possibility of use of Rosselkhozbank’s loans for financing the supplies of Russian grain, agricultural equipment and fertilizers to Mongolia.
In its turn, the Ministry of Culture of Russia and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science of Mongolia have signed a program of cooperation in 2009–2011. Special attention was paid to cultural, educational and humanitarian relations, particularly, popularization of the Russian language in Mongolia and training of Mongolian specialists in Russia. In 2009 the quota for Mongolian students at Russian universities is 230 people.
