OREANDA-NEWS. March 16, 2009.  In 2008, the total number of subscribers of fixed Internet access in Moldova has increased by 41,1% and amounted to 155.78 thousand.

As it was informed in NARCETI, the level of penetration of these services per hundred citizens of the republic has increased by 1.14 points and amounted 4,37%.

The level of penetration of broadband Internet services has increased by 1.86 points - by 3,23%. Although the latter index has increased by 2,4 times, it continues to be extremely low as compared with EU countries where average penetration of broadband Internet services has exceeded 22%. NARCETI specialists explain this by the fact that the high-speed Internet services in Moldova are mainly developed in Chisinau and Balti.

Thus, two-thirds of all subscribers of broadband Internet access are concentrated in Chisinau and as of the end of the year, density of these services per hundred households amounted to 30.8%. The same index in Balti made 10,6% and in most areas it ranged between 2,2 and 4,7%.

According to NARCETI, in 2008 the total number of mobile connections to Internet in Moldova on the basis of GPRS / EDGE, HSPA, CDMA 2000 1x and EV-DO has increased by 115.4% and reached 1 million 437 thousand.

The level of penetration of these connections per 1 hundred citizens has increased more than two times and amounted to 40.28%.
