Turkmenistan Started Construction of New Railway Branch
OREANDA-NEWS. March 13, 2009. Construction of the 26-km railway branch was started in the Lebap Velayat. The customer and general contractor is the Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan. The construction project was launched in the framework of the national programme on the development of the richest natural resources of the right bank of the Amu Darya River. A large industrial zone including such large-scale enterprises as the cements works and the potash fertilizer plant will be developed in the Koytendag Etrap in the near future. The railway will connect the Kelif-Garlyk branch with the new industrial facilities.
An extended transport infrastructure is an essential factor of the social and economic progress of any country. Today paramount importance is attached to this issue in Turkmenistan, which is experiencing the economic and industrial boom. The priority aspects of the national strategy of fundamental reforms initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov include the development of the transport and communication systems which allow fulfilling the designated tasks. The important links of these systems are the approach lines to industrial facilities as a key factor of manufacturing organization and effective operation of the industrial enterprises.
Construction materials and equipment will be delivered along the new railway branch which is to be built by this June. After the enterprises are put into operation finished products of great demand in agricultural sector and construction industry will be transported along the new steel line.
