OREANDA-NEWS. March 11, 2009. Due to the fact that idle time of railway rolling stock on rail track and branch-lines has decreased considerably since the middle of February, Board of Directors of LDz Cargo, subsidiary of SJSC Latvijas dzelzcels, has made a decision to postpone the introduction of the new tariffs for idle time of railway rolling stock until 1 June 2009, reported the press-centre of LDz Cargo.

“At the end of last year situation on rail track was critical, because there was an unexpectedly large number of wagons in idle time – on rail track there were standing more than 4800 wagons, thus cargo throughput decreased and cargo security was threatened. Therefore, in order to stimulate fright owners to reload cargos faster, we have decided to increase charge for the idle time,” said Guntis Macs, Chairman of the Board of LDz Cargo Ltd.

Since the middle of February situation has improved considerably – for the present there isn’t cargo congestion on rail track, therefore, introduction of the new tariffs is postponed until 1 June 2009.

“During the next months we will negotiate with our biggest cooperation partners – freight owners – in order to agree on mutually advantageous solution in connection with the tariffs for the idle time, “ pointed Guntis Macs.
