Rostelecom Completes Upgrade of Kingisepp-Khabarovsk Optic Cable Line
OREANDA-NEWS. On 12 March 2009 was announced, that national LD operator Rostelecom had completed the upgrade of the Kingisepp-Khabarovsk backbone fiber optic cable line. During the upgrade process additional optic channels were rolled out, which will allow Rostelecom to raise its transmission capability along with the efficiency of its network which was built using DWDM technology. The network is designed for transmitting rising volumes of DLD and ILD traffic, including Europe-Asia transit traffic.
Rotelecom was one of the first Russian telecom operators to have made use of DWDM spectral density technology on its backbone network. Experience in successfully operating DWDM in recent years has shown that the technology chosen by the company is an ideal solution for transmitting powerful information flows on the basis of its existing infrastructure.
DWDN technology offers the biggest scalable and profitable way to extend the transmission bandwidth of fiber optic channels. The transmission capacity of DWDM optic lines could be gradually expanded as new fiber optic channels are added to the existing equipment. The new channels will be added without disrupting network operations.
“Rostelecom’s strategy, which has been adopted until 2013, as one of the main areas of the company’s development, calls for the technology of its infrastructure to be upgraded in order to phase in new and promising services. Expanding the transmission capacity of DWDM systems will make it possible to considerably cut costs when operating backbone telecom networks and ensure that the company is technically capable of handling growing traffic volumes”, said the general director of Rostelecom, Konstantin Solodukhin.
