OREANDA-NEWS. March 10, 2009. As of late February 2009, currency reserves of NBM amounted to US1 billion 365 million, having decreased by US307,41 million (18,4%) since the beginning of the year.

According to NBM, in January 2009, they have decreased by US168,02 million and in February- by US139,39 million, respectively.

Official reserves in February have reduced due to transactions on the sale of currency for US124,71 million, payments on the foreign debt of the country worth US15,2 million as well as other foreign payments worth US4,48 million and reduction of the exchange rate of currencies included into the currency reserve in relation to USD by US2,39 million.

It can be reminded that in 2008 currency reserves of Moldova have increased by US338,72 million (25,4%) – up to US1 billion 672,41 million. As of December 31, 2007, currency reserves of NBM amounted to US1 billion 333,68 million, as of late I quarter 2008-US1 billion 424,29 million, as of late I half of 2008 - US1 billion 525,95 million. Early in August 2008, currency reserves of NBM exceeded US1,7 billion and in late September 2008 reached new absolute maximum of US1,8 billion.

Then due to the world financial-economic crisis, the decline in the currency reserves has been observed.
