Kazakhmys PLC ("Kazakhmys" or the "Group") announces the appointment of Peter Hickson as an independent non-executive Director with immediate effect.

Peter Hickson is currently chairman of Communisis plc and senior independent director of London & Continental Railways Ltd. He was previously chairman of Anglian Water Group Ltd, group finance director of Powergen plc and a non-executive director of Telent plc, Scottish Power plc and RAC plc.

Peter Hickson will become a member of the Audit and Health, Safety & Environment Committees.

A further independent non-executive director will be appointed in due course to ensure at least half the Board is composed of independent directors.

Kazakhmys' Chairman Vladimir Kim said, "We are delighted to welcome Peter Hickson as a non-executive director to our Board. Peter brings a wealth of experience and his knowledge of the power sector will be of great value, given our position as the largest power generator in Kazakhstan."
