Zaporizhstal JSC Develops Integrated Management System
OREANDA-NEWS. March 4, 2009. Results of the 4th quarter and of the year 2008 all in all have been discussed at the work safety meeting with the heads and work safety engineers of structural subdivisions of the Works and representatives of shop trade union committees.
First Deputy Chairman of the Board, Technical Director, Head of the Work Safety Service A.Yu. Putnoki, Deputy Chairman of the Trade Union Committee of the Works V.V. Maksak, Deputy Head of the Zaporozhye Territorial Administration of the State Committee of Ukraine for Industrial Safety, Work Safety and Mines Inspectorate G.A. Rozzuvayev, Head of the Department of the Production Accidents Social Insurance Fund A.I. Moroz, Deputy Chief Physician of “Vita Center” O.A. Shakhmina took part in the meeting.
In his speech the Deputy Technical Director for Work Safety, Deputy Head of the Work Safety Service A.S. Sheludchenko noted that the fourth quarter of 2008 was preceded by preparatory work on development and introduction of the Integrated Management System and work safety management, aimed at the high demands of international standards and supporting the image of the company at international level. In October 2008 certification audit was carried out and the Works received Integrated Management System certificates.
The results of Work Safety Management were positive. In the 4th quarter the collective of the Works demonstrated its best results regarding production accidents in 2008 and repeated the exclusive low indices of 2007.
Monitoring of production accidents in 2008 in the mining-metallurgical complex of Ukraine, shows the leading position of Zaporizhstal JSC in this branch of industry.
There were only 26 production accidents at Zaporizhstal JSC last year. For the first time in its history the open-hearth furnace collective has worked without accidents. For the first time in the history of Zaporizhstal not a single initial invalid case due to production accidents has been reported. Collectives of 34 structural subdivisions, amounting to 64%, had no production accidents.
The city and state prosecution office, EBRD audit, complex research done by the Territorial Department of State City Industrial Inspection (“Gosgorpromnadzor”) of Ukraine made a positive evaluation of the work of the Zaporizhstal collective on work safety.
The priority tasks in 2009, determined by the work safety service, is the development and introduction of “behavioural audit of work safety” at the Works, which is part of the work safety control system and is directed towards the formation of work safety culture in the corporate policy of Zaporizhstal and the work of all the structural subdivisions of the Works without production accidents.
