Comstar-UTS Enhances Internet Backbone in Saratov
OREANDA-NEWS. On 03 March 2009 COMSTAR – United TeleSystems (COMSTAR-UTS, LSE: CMST), the leading supplier of integrated telecommunication solutions in Russia and the CIS announced that Saratov branch of COMSTAR-UTS has accomplished scheduled enhancement of Internet backbone by one and a half.
Since February 1 2009, COMSTAR-UTS has enhanced Internet backbone in Saratov from 300 Mbps up to 450 Mbps. Improving of transport IP network capacity by 50% due to wider optical links to the telecom networks of backbone operators is connected with constant growth of Internet traffic consumed by COMSTAR-UTS subscribers in this region.
First of all, traffic growth is caused by a large number of new subscribers. In 2008 Saratov branch of COMSTAR-UTS subscribed around 7 thousand new users of broadband Internet. As a result the total number of Internet subscribers has grown as compared with the last year by more than 2.5 times and approached 10 thousand. At the same time, the average amount of traffic per subscriber has also substantially grown.
“Thanks to the introduction of new tariff scheme with advantageous packaged offers of Double Pay (voice + Internet), successful accomplishment of a number of marketing events and vivid advertisement campaigns we managed to attract many new subscribers, notwithstanding the hard economic situation. Besides, for the last months we see growing interest in Internet services from those who are already the subscribers of the Company”, said Ivan Gavriletsky, Director of Saratov branch of COMSTAR-UTS. “We've been working at mass broadband market for 18 months already and now nearly quarter of our voice subscribers enjoy broadband Internet based on ADSL2+. Enhancement of backbone capacity is, by all means, a positive factor for the quality of service provided, as now we can guarantee stable bandwidth capacity allocated per each subscriber and support further growth of traffic and subscriber base.”
Saratov branch of COMSTAR-UTS has its own new generation multi-service telecom network and impressive capacity of Internet backbones. The operator provides stable quality voice communication and reliable access to Internet for all the subscribers, thanks to multiple redundancies of these channels by parallel connection of several backbone operators to the networks at one and the same time.
