OREANDA-NEWS. On 25 February 2009 was announced, that Turkmenistan is going to increase cooperation with international organizations, primarily with the United Nations. This was stated by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during a meeting dedicated to the further implementation of the foreign policy strategy of Turkmenistan.

"I instruct our permanent mission to the United Nations to broaden presence of different UN agencies in Turkmenistan," the president said. According to him, Turkmenistan should also increase its presence in the committees, councils and commissions of the United Nations. He said proposals on Turkmenistan's election to these bodies should be prepared.
