IMF Wishes to See from Ukrainian Authorities Consolidated Position
OREANDA-NEWS On 20 February was announced, that the International Monetary Fund is expecting from Ukrainian authorities a consolidated position concerning approaches and measures, directed to overcoming of the world financial crunch. Acting Finance Minister Ihor Umanskyi informed during a briefing today. “The IMF wishes to see an understandable, joint position of Ukraine,” he accentuated.
Ihor Umanskyi noted for the IMF it is the country, which is its partner, but not the Government, President or the National Bank, in particular. That’s why it is principal for them to realize that Ukraine has assumed certain liabilities in respect to regulating the situation, while “the approaches and measures directed to overcoming the crisis have to be joined and not only sealed with the signature, but supported with real actions of representatives of the Government, the Verkhovna Rada, the NBU and the President”.
The Deputy Finance Minister added propositions of the IMF on improvement of the financial situation in Ukraine are flexible, these are additional fiscal measures to increase incomes of the State Budget, to shorten the circle of responsibilities or attract additional funds from the countries-partners on bilateral basis. “The IMF has a rather flexible position, it is acceptable for the Prime Minister and the Government in whole,” he emphasized.
According to the Deputy Finance Minister for now the Government does not intend to tackle issues on reducing expenses of the State Budget, including shortening social expenses. Growing of fiscal dues proves possible at the account of thorough monitoring of discipline of tax payments.
Ihor Umanskyi also noted, the Government relies upon positive cooperation with the countries-members and added, the negotiations are launched with a series of countries.
The Deputy Finance Minister also informed the Government isn’t planning to reconsider macroeconomic showings for 2009. “The Finance Ministry doesn’t include an issue of reconsidering of macroeconomic showings into the Government’s agenda,” Ihor Umanskyi stressed.
