OREANDA-NEWS. On 20 February 2009 was announced, that underwater parking facilities may be developed below the drainage canal in the centre of Moscow.

“We have indeed made a decision to build a car park under the canal that is to occupy the space from Red October factory to Novospassky Bridge,” Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov told journalists on February 14.

According to the official, the development is possible be divided into several stages to avoid damaging various engineering services.

“The canal will flow over the concrete top of the parking garage, so it won’t change the habitual urban environment,” the mayor noted.

Mr Luzhkov added that it was a way the parking shortage situation could be improved in the centre of Moscow.
