German to Set up Zinc Plating Plant in Gomel
OREANDA-NEWS. February 20, 2009. The Gomel Oblast Executive Committee and RAM Engineering+Anlagenbau GmbH (Germany) have signed a protocol of intent to construct a steel zinc plating plant in the Gomel-Raton free economic zone.
The new plant will provide hot-dip galvanizing of metalware for the domestic market and for the exports to Russia and Ukraine. Its designed capacity is to range from 70,000 tonnes to 100,000 tonnes of metalware a year. The plant is to be commissioned in 2011. 120 new jobs will be created here. The warranty period of zinc coated steel is 35 years; after the introduction of additional painting technologies it will extend up to 50 years.
Director General of RAM Engineering Russia Stephan Fittkau told reporters that the new enterprise will be equipped with cutting-edge facilities, both from the point of view of production efficiency and ecological safety. “There is no production of such a high technological level within 1,000 kilometers from Gomel,” the businessman said.
RAM Engineering Holding Bel, an office of the German company in Belarus, has already been registered in Minsk. The office will research the Belarusian market and the markets of the neighbouring countries and prepare the necessary paperwork for the construction and registration of the office as an economic entity. The construction will be facilitated by specialists of RAM GmbH which has 35 years of expertise in this area.
The investment project is estimated at approximately EUR17 million. It will be financed jointly by Belarusian and European banks.
RAM Engineering+Anlagenbau GmbH implements engineering projects in oil, metallurgy and power engineering industries.
