OREANDA-NEWS On 17 February 2009 was announced, that Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received an invitation to the summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization to be held in Tehran on 11 March 2009.

The invitation was sent by Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinezhad. The text of the invitation was published in Turkmen press.

"When people of the world are experiencing an economic crisis caused by industrial western countries it is of great importance to maintain solidarity and strengthen cooperation within the ECO in order to resist this crisis," the message says.

The Iranian president expressed confidence that "the summit, which will be held under the motto "Regional Solidarity in Overcoming Global Financial Crisis" and harmony of opinions of heads of the ECO member states, will achieve meaningful results for the success and prosperity of peoples in the region".
