OREANDA-NEWS. February 17, 2009. A guest meeting of the chief engineers of the nuclear power plants of Energoatom Concern OJSC took place in Moscow region Feb 11–14 2009. The meeting was chaired by acting deputy director general-technical director of the concern Y.Kopyov.

The chief engineers summed up the results of their work in 2008 and discussed a wide range of problems concerning the safety and efficiency of their plants.

Kopyov made a report on the performance of the Russian nuclear power plants in 2008. He said that in 2008 the plant generated a total of 162.291bln KWh – 2.5% more than in 2007 and 100.5% of the plant for the year.

Due to effective work to enhance safety and to maintain and modernize its equipment, in 2008 the capacity factor of the plants was raised to 79.5% (1.8% more than in 2007). In 2008 the plants operated safely with no single above “0” INES event registered throughout the year just like in 2007.

The head of the Maintenance Department of Energoatom Concern V.Dementyev told the conferees about the results of the maintenance campaign 2008 and the tasks for 2009. He pointed out that 29 mid-term repairs and overhauls were carried out at the Russian NPPs in 2008. Two of them will be completed in 2009.

The total duration of the maintenance of NPPs with WWER reactors was 647.5 days (against planned 701), of NPPs with RBMK, BN and EGP reactors – 1,240 days (against planned 1,237). The biggest repairs were carried out at Kursk, Leningrad, Beloyarsk and Kola NPPs.
