LDz Cargo Ltd Keeps Stable Cargo Volumes
OREANDA-NEWS. February 10, 2009. LDz Cargo Ltd. keeps stable cargo volumes by increasing export and import transportations. In January 2009 LDz Cargo Ltd. has carried 4890 thousand tons of cargo, reported the press-centre of LDz Cargo.
Even though the total amount of cargos carried by rail in January 2009 has decreased by 3%, ie. 153 thousand tons, LDz Cargo Ltd. has increased export transportations carrying 187 thousand tons of cargo. There has been also a considerable growth of import transportations, int.al. transportations through the ports of Latvia. In January 2008 there were transported 4258 thousand tons of cargo, but in January 2009 transportations have increased by 1.3% reaching 4312 thousand tons.
At the same time there has been a decline in domestic and overland transit transportations, carrying 96 and 295 thousand tons of cargo, respectively.
The main products carried by rail in January 2009 were oil products, ie. 2087 thousand tons, which is 3.6% more than in the respective period of 2008, when the company transported 2015 thousand tons of oil products.
The amount of coal carried by rail in January 2009 increased by 24.5% reaching 1847 thousand tons. The amount of chemicals carried by rail in January 2009 grew by 21.2% reaching 246 thousand tons.
Considering that there is a sharp decline in demand of ferrous metals and mineral fertilizers in world markets, and taking into account the reserves of these products, transportation of these cargos is decreasing. The amount of ferrous metals fell by 54.9% carrying 111 thousand tons, but the volume of mineral fertilizers - by 54.4% carrying 251 thousand tons.
