OREANDA-NEWS. February 11, 2009. National Bank of Uzbekistan for Foreign Economic Activity (NBU) issued 180,000 plastic cards in 2008 and their total number reached 1.319 million.

Total transaction volume doubled in 2008 compared to previous year and reached 210 billion soums. Turnover of trade-service enterprises with use of plastic cards made up 150 billion soums in 2008, which also doubled compared to 2007.

NBU emitted 381,600 plastic cards on so-called salary projects. About 227.4 billion soums were transferred to the special plastic cards in 2008 or 1.6 times up year-on-year.

The bank also issues overdraft credit cards on salary projects. The bank issues over 3,000 overdraft cards in 2008 and issued credits for 6.2 billion soums (twice up year-on-year).

NBU introduced DUET Online service, which allows card holders to transfer money to their accounts without visiting the bank.
