OREANDA-NEWS. On February 05, 2009 Minister of Agrarian Policy Yurii Melnyk declared, in whole the year of 2008 was successful for agrarians. He announced on Wednesday, during the briefing in the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

According to Yurii Melnyk, in the course of today’s Government session he reported on implementation of priorities of activity of the ministry in 2008: “2008 was successful for agro-industrial complex in whole”.

The Minister informed positive results could have been achieved owing to adopting a whole series of complex decisions of the Government, which enabled agrarians to draw investments into the development of agrarian sector last year. In particular, the amount of investments into agrarian sector in 2008 as compared to 2007 upped by almost 14% and totaled over UAH 23 bn.

Besides, as Yurii Melnyk put it, in 2008 yield of crops was significant. Notably, he drew attention that last year’s harvest of crops achieved a record level – 53.3 mn tons. “In plant cultivation sugar beet alone gave lower yield against 2007, while the rest of positions have demonstrated significant growth,” the Minister said and added, such showings proved possible not at the account of increase of sown areas, but owing to applying advanced technologies.

Yurii Melnyk views as positive reorganization of Agrarian fund which in 2008 had been working along all the determined by legislation directions. Moreover, last year a package of draft laws in AIC area was elaborated with the part of them having been submitted to the Parliament.
